Recorded just days after "Hyperuranion", "So On The Earth Below" culminated a creative streak that had lasted nearly six months. In this time frame, eight unreleased demos and three usable tracks were composed; "So On The Earth Below" being the last of these.

Deeply personal, this track was written following a series of heartbreaking family events. Formerly titled "Mercury's Poisoning", it is a piece that coalesces loss, nostalgia and feelings of bittersweet. The dissonant, distorted rhythm guitars juxtaposed with the harmonious dueling lead guitars conjure senses of beauty, vitality and hope.

Switching the title to "So On The Earth Below" was done for two reasons: to soften personal negative connotations that existed with the previous title and as a reference to the Hermetic saying "As above, so [on the earth] below".

The bass was down-tuned a full two octaves for this track influenced by the lowered octave bass line in "Waiting for a Coconut to Drop" by Brant Bjork. In addition, "Frogs" by Alice in Chains also heavily shaped the tone of this piece.
